With reggae's fabled "riddim twins," drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robbie Shakespeare, laying down the solid grooves for this second of the many Black Uhuru incarnations, the group was firmly set on the fast track to international pop stardom. This recording from London's Rainbow theater captures the group in 1981, at their most intimidating and exhilarating peak--rock & roll flash coupled with R...

Black Uhuru can claim big things in reggae history. Winners of the first Grammy Award for best reggae album (for Anthem), Black Uhuru took Bob Marley's punching rhythms and hardened them further, thanks to the duo of bassist Robbie Shakespeare and drummer Sly Dunbar. Singer Michael Rose also had a raggy voice, which was coarse and impassioned like Marley's--and had a great alter ego in vocalist Sa...

Black Uhuru: Derrick "Duckie" Simpson, Michael Rose, Puma Jones (vocals).Additional personnel: Robbie Shakespeare (bass); Sly Dunbar (drums).Producers: Black Uhuru, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Steven Stanley.Includes liner notes by Edwin Pouncey.Duckie Simpson founded his first freedom group (Uhuru means freedom) in 1975, with little success. When the brilliant music doctors Sly And Robbie became involved, Uhuru`s fortunes changed. Most of the cuts on this excellent collection are produced by the dynamic duo, and it shows. That they are such a crucial part of Black Uhuru is a testament to their ability to change the shape and sound of everything they touch. Overwhelmingly good are `Happiness`, `Push Push` and `World Is Africa`, but the most powerful song in the catalogue is `Youth Of Eglington`. They observed the troubled times of racial disharmony in Brixton better than most. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.

Black Uhuru: Michael Rose, Puma Jones, Derrick Simpson (vocals).Additional personnel: Rad "Duggie" Bryan, "Ranchie" MacLean (guitar); Jimmy Becker (harmonica); Ansell Collins (piano, organ); Robbie Shakespeare (bass); Sly Dunbar (drums, electronic drums); "Sticky" Thompson (percussion).Recorded at Channel One Studio, Kingston, Jamaica, on January 26, 1980. Originally released on Mango (9593). Includes liner notes by David Katz. This is part of "Reggae Classics" series.Only a shade less great than 1981`s RED, 1980`s SINSEMILLA, Black Uhuru`s debut on Island Records, is still mightily impressive. Powered by the songwriting and distinctive, soulful tenor of Michael Rose, and sweetened by the harmonies of Derrick "Duckie" Simpson and Sandra "Puma" Jones (the use of the male/female vocal trio was the group`s defining characteristic), Black Uhuru combined roots reggae and hypnotic, almost futuristic grooves. Unlike many roots acts from the `60s and `70s, Black Uhuru wasn`t afraid to incorporate keyboard-generated sounds into the mix. Spacey synth accents join earthy rhythms and traditional Rasta themes--Black pride, spiritual uplift, the celebration of marijuana--in a way that is tied to reggae`s past, yet sounds totally fresh. But Black Uhuru`s real secret weapon is the presence of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, the legendary rhythm section/production duo. As instrumentalists, Sly and Robbie lend incessantly propulsive rhythms to SINSEMILLA, and their production--dark, complex, crisp, and psychedelic at once--is a revelation. Guitars, auxiliary percussion, and other instruments swim through the heady, swirling mix, while Rose, Simpson, and Jones sing passionately on "World Is Africa" and "Push Push," among others. This is a mesmerizing and deeply enduring album from one of reggae`s finest groups. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.

Black Uhuru: Michael Rose, Sandra "Puma" Jones, Derek "Duckie" Simpson (vocals).Additional personnel: Ranchie McLean, Mikey Chung, Dougie Bryan, Barry Reynolds (guitar); Robert "Robbie" Shakespeare (piano, bass); Robert Lyn, Keith Sterling (piano); Sly Dunbar (drums, elctronic drums); Sticky Thompson (percussion).Recorded at Channel One Studio, Kingston, Jamaica and Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas. Originally released on Mango (9625). Includes liner notes by David Katz. This is part of "Reggae Classics" series.Arguably Black Uhuru`s finest offering, RED was the band`s sophomore effort on Island`s Mango subsidiary, and crystallized their unique combination of contemporary sounds (including synthesizers and electronic drums), traditional roots reggae, and male/female trio vocals (with lead singer Michael Rose backed by Sandra "Puma" Jones, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson). For a sound centered primarily on rhythm grooves, Black Uhuru`s music is remarkably complex, and manages to sound both stripped down and fully fleshed out (there is a battery of interlocking instrumental parts at any given moment on the album).RED is greatly shaped by producers/rhythm section Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, though their production here is considerably cleaner and more streamlined than on RED`s predecessor, SINSEMILLA. (Assistance from executive producer Chris Blackwell--the man largely responsible for the crossover success of Bob Marley`s CATCH A FIRE--probably helped). Whether on the infectious bounce of "Sponji Reggae," or the trance-like "Sistren," RED is accessible but never poppy; it`s serious and challenging, yet given to bright irresistible grooves. Black Uhuru contends for the post-Marley reggae crown, and this album is possibly the best example of what they do. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.

Almost all of these 17 tracks come from Black Uhuru`s classic late `70s/early `80s lineup featuring vocalists Michael Rose and the late Sandra "Puma" Jones, two of the finest singers in reggae history. (Indeed, there are those who feel that Rose`s piercing tenor is up there with Marvin Gaye`s and Sam Cooke`s as one of the greatest male voices in pop.)Powered by the legendary production team/rhythm section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, Black Uhuru pulled off the tricky feat of making reggae records which appealed to pop and rock fans without sounding like watered-down sell-out attempts. All of the classics, from the ganja-praising "Sinsemilla" to the religious politics of "I Love King Selassie" and "World Is Africa," are present and accounted for. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. 2005. Black Uhuru: Michael Rose, Duckie Simpson, Puma Jones (vocals).Additional personnel: Ranchie McLean, Radcliffe "Dougie" Bryan, Mikey Chung, Barry Reynolds (guitar); Ansell Collins, Robbie Lyn, Keith Stirling (piano); Wally Badarou (synthesizer, vocoder); Robbie Shakespeare (bass); Sly Dunbar (drums, electronic drums); Sky Juice, Sticky Johnson (percussion).Recorded at Channel One Studio, Kingston, Jamaica and Compass Point Studio, Nassau, Bahamas in 1983. Originally released on Mango (9758). Includes liner notes by David Katz. This is part of Mango`s "Reggae Classics" series.Since Black Uhuru is, with the possible exception of the original Wailers, the most famous vocal group in reggae history, a full dub album might seem an odd career choice. But 1983`s THE DUB FACTOR is one of the decade`s finest dub efforts. With classic reggae voices like those of Michael Rose and Puma Jones at hand, it`s no wonder producers/bandleaders Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare use more vocals than are common in dub.The vocals are treated as accents, or processed beyond recognition (as on the wild "Android Rebellion"). This leaves the focus squarely on Sly and Robbie`s staggering bass/drum interplay and on the inventive keyboards of Wally Badarou. His unique synthesizer style has been so widely used and imitated that, by decade`s end, it was almost a cliche. THE DUB FACTOR, however, remains as fresh and exciting as it sounded the year of its release. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.

$9.98

Black Uhuru: Derrick "Duckie" Simpson, Sandra "Puma" Jones, Michael Rose.Producers: Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare.Compilation producers: Dana G. Smart, Bill Levenson.Recorded between 1980 & 1984. Includes liner notes by David Katz. All tracks have been digitally remastered. This is part of Universal Records "20th Century Masters The Millenium Collection" series.Composer: Black Uhuru.A reasonable if abbreviated summation of one of the most popular reggae bands of the `80s, this bargain-priced, 11-track collection is nonetheless a compelling listening. It covers the highlights of their four studio Island albums, adding the "Guess Who`s Coming to Dinner" B-side of the "Sinsemilla" 12". Uhuru was helmed on these tracks by the producer/rhythm section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. Their crisp rhythms, rugged playing, memorable riffs, and intricate studio touches like the chiming glockenspiel on the chorus of "Sponji Reggae" nearly burst out of the speakers. Although backing vocalists Puma Jones and Duckie Simpson provide minor supporting roles next to Michael Rose`s distinctive leads, the music`s gripping melodies, vocal harmonies, and cracking backbeat gave Black Uhuru a unique identity. They never duplicated the formula after winning the first Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 1985 and subsequently left Island. The remastered audio on this collection is stunning. It reveals subtle sounds that had been previously hidden and adds a confident presence. The song`s shorter versions are used, resulting in a more dynamic listening experience as opposed to the double-disc Liberation, which featured extended mixes. The absence of "Shine Eye Gal" from the Tear It Up live album makes this only slightly less comprehensive than it could have been as a compilation of Black Uhuru`s most important years. ~ Hal Horowitz Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Black Uhuru with Sly and Robbie-Dubbin It Live Black Uhuru with Sly and Robbie-Dubbin It Live
$9.99

In July 2001, Black Uhuru and Sly & Robbie took Europe by storm. This 1 hour, 20 minute DVD contains the unedited, uncut, entire concert they gave in Nyon, Switzerland, where they closed the Paleo Festival. Through the late 80's and 90's, Sly & Robbie revolutionized Jamaican music by turning Reggae into Dancehall. They chose to reunite with Black Uhuru, whom they had helped become a leading force in the Reggae industry in the late 70's, early 80's. Black Uhuru's harder, more urgent sound proved to be an ideal vehicle for Sly & Robbie's creativity and greatly benefited from the Riddim Twins' desire to push the boundaries of Jamaican music in new and unheard of directions.

Personnel: Black Uhuru; Robbie Shakespeare (bass); Sly Dunbar (drums); Taxi Gang.Additional personnel: Taxi Gang. This import collection covers much of the group`s output for Chris Blackwell`s Island Records label. It focuses on the golden years of the band`s career, when Michael Rose and Puma Jones (the latter of whom died an untimely death in the late `80s) were still members.Produced by Sly & Robbie at the height of their powers, these tracks have an honesty and fury, and include some of Black Uhuru`s grittier material, rather than a simple compilation of pop hits. The controversial (by today`s standards) yet potent "Abortion" makes its way onto the disc among more noticeable hits like "Solidarity." It`s possible that some of these tracks have either been re-mixed for this collection, or come from sources other than the Island masters, as there are a few very slight sonic differences between these and the originals, as in the wailing synth intro of "Guess Who`s Coming To Dinner." Despite this little mystery, what we`re left with is a potent collection for both the die-hard fan as well as the curious consumer. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. Black Uhuru: Michael Rose (vocals); Mikey Chung, Radcliffe "Dougie" Bryan, Darryl Thompson (guitar); Dan Fraser (saxophone); David Madden, Chico Chin (trumpet); Nambo Robinson (trombone); Bernie Worrell (Clavinet); Franklyn Waul (keyboards); Robbie Shakespeare (bass guitar); Sly Dunbar (drums); Sky Juice (percussion); Puma Jones, Duckie Simpson (background vocals). When Tom Tom Club sang "reggae`s expanding with Sly & Robbie" on "Genius of Love," perhaps they were referring to their influence on Black Uhuru`s landmark crossover, Anthem (1983). Their musicianship and ability to tailor the arrangements and presentation was seminal to the success of the long-player. The original incarnation of the band -- whose name translates as "to be free" in Swahili -- evolved from the fertile environs of Kingston, Jamaica. By the early `80s the lineup centered around the trio of Michael Rose (vocals), sole founding member Derrick "Duckie" Simpson (vocals), and in 1981 Sandra "Puma" Jones (vocals), an American who had previously been part of the all-girl combo Mama Africa. With Anthem, the threesome took a bold and ultimately fruitful step, trying to appeal to a much larger audience. While the platter would earn Black Uhuru the very first Grammy award given to a reggae artist, many purists were less than impressed by the undeniably overt pop/rock elements, including the copious use of synthesizers. The end result was a less-than-authentic interpretation of the material. As the title of this four-disc box set intimates, Hip-O Select`s Complete Anthem Sessions (2004) is the final word on the album. Housed within are all the unedited full-length mixes, dub mixes, U.K. and U.S. versions, and widely sought 12" renderings of "Party Next Door," "Party in Session," "What Is Life," and the Steve Van Zandt-penned "Solidarity." Plus, a pair of never-before-available interpretations of "Somebody`s Watching You." Providing every possible option in one anthology is nothing short of inspired. It likewise allows a juxtaposition of production styles that aid in understanding both the impact of the music, as well as the various alterations -- some subtle and others significant -- made in an attempt to cater to specific listeners. The Hip-O Select Internet audio boutique issued The Complete Anthem Sessions in a strictly limited edition of 5,000 copies. The four CDs are accompanied by 40 pages of text and photos, with the contents housed in a lavish high quality 7-3/4" by 6-1/4" cloth hardbound book. Black Uhuru: Michael Rose, Puma Jones, Duckie Simpson.Additional personnel: Radcliff "Dougie" Bryan (guitar); Keith Sterling, Winston Wright (organ).Producers: Delroy Witter, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare. This collection of mid-to-late-`70s singles has been issued under a couple of other names (SHOWCASE and BLACK UHURU), but under any title, it`s simply essential. This early material is prime `70s reggae. Unlike a lot of Jamaican reggae artists, Black Uhuru were able to integrate an upfront American R&B element--thanks largely due to the Al Green-style lead vocals of Michael Rose, supported by South Carolina-born backing vocalist Sheila "Puma" Jones--into their music, which makes the group more accessible to rock and pop fans new to reggae.Tracks like "Guess Who`s Coming To Dinner" and the wide-eyed "Shine Eye Gal" are immediately appealing to the reggae novice, which makes tougher-sounding and more challenging material like the plainspoken "Abortion" and "General Penitentiary" easier to get a handle on. This seven-track set is brief, but it`s a perfect introduction to one of reggae`s best bands. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.

Black Uhuru - Brutal/Brutal Dub [5/1] Black Uhuru - Brutal/Brutal Dub [5/1]
$13.13

As one of reggae`s most enduring groups, Black Uhuru`s star was on the rise during the period shortly after Bob Marley`s death, when Jamaican music`s growing presence on the pop charts propelled the group to international success. Coming off the strength of the commercially and critically lauded ANTHEM, the group`s 1986 album BRUTAL ushered in the digital era with a modern day take on the trio`s hard-hitting roots style.Featuring core members Duckie Simpson and Puma Jones, along with the able talents of brand new vocalist Junior Reid (who replaced Michael Rose), the group retains the roots/pop crossover appeal of their earlier releases and adds some modernizing touches in the form of digital effects, drum machines, and even the odd disco track to liven things up--as in the Arthur Baker produced "Great Train Robbery." Other tracks, such as the ragamuffin-styled "Let Us Pray," set its sights on the dancehall. This reissue appends the companion instrumental dub release BRUTAL DUB, and features state-of-the-art mixes from dub producer extraordinaire Scientist. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Black Uhuru 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Black Uhuru
$9.98

A reasonable if abbreviated summation of one of the most popular reggae bands of the '80s, this bargain-priced, 11-track collection is nonetheless a compelling listening. It covers the highlights of their four studio Island albums, adding the "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" B-side of the "Sinsemilla" 12". Although backing vocalists Puma Jones and Duckie Simpson provide minor supporting roles next to Michael Rose's distinctive leads, the music's gripping melodies, vocal harmonies, and cracking backbeat gave Black Uhuru a unique identity. They never duplicated the formula after winning the first Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 1985 and subsequently left Island. The remastered audio on this collection is stunning. It reveals subtle sounds that had been previously hidden and adds a confident presence. The song's shorter versions are used, resulting in a more dynamic listening experience as opposed to the double-disc Liberation, which featured extended mixes. The absence of "Shine Eye Gal" from the Tear It Up live album makes this only slightly less comprehensive than it could have been as a compilation of Black Uhuru's most important years. ~ Hal Horowitz, All Music Guide

His fellow educators and colleagues placed academia on hold for him. Some actors and filmmakers that he knew took breaks from their performances to help him out. Other artists and writers delayed their own projects to work with him. Even tireless activists and people working in the social services or engaged within various civic venues were able to find the time to assist him. In every shade of Blackness, these colored folks joined together here; a cross section of backgrounds, genders, ages, and creeds. Each responded in a manner of his or her own- contributing by word of mouth, with pencil and pad, via email or text message. And their responses came in from all around the nation- Cleveland, New York, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago, and many other places.pIndeed, Kommon Knowledge sent out the call for uhuru and they all answered it. They united within these pages to share their timely message with the People.pUntil Uhuru: For US Colored Folks is a compilation of poetry and prose on the personal experiences of each writer joined together here. The presentation of their message to the People comes through the collective mindsets of these writers as well. Prepare for your political, spiritual, emotional, and social consciousness to be awakened!

By C. S. Howe, Editor POrganizational Communication and Project Management in Project Uhuru & NARCs 100 Days by Jane Waithera is a fascinating analysis of the organizational mechanics of Kenya African National Unions (KANU) Project Uhuru. Named after Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, age 41, the youngest leading presidential candidate Kenya has ever had; Project Uhuru was the campaign created by the powerful second president of Kenya, Daniel Arap Moi to promote the election of his chosen presidential candidate, Uhuru Kenyatta. PThe author eloquently compares the stages of project planning and organizational communication within the KANU party with the intricacies of our own business organizations. She clearly demonstrates how issues of project planning, colleague relationships, appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication, conflict handling and resolution, negotiations, team building, and many other factors essential in good business management played out in the implementation of project Uhuru- and in your own place of employment; making this book a compelling must-read for everyone interested in learning good business management skills. PFrom a business administration perspective, Jane shows the reader how the decisions of KANU and President Moi parallels the corporate decision-making process, and gives her readers plenty of food for thought as to how they may have seen or even been involved with similar situations in their own workplaces. She has chosen a fabulous and unique model to use as an explanation of organizational communication and critique of business management and organizational communication techniques.

The author presents a micropolitical study of an important region of one of East Africa's Rew nations. In the belief that intensive study of selected local areas is an important development in scholarship on Africa, the author presents a micropolitical study of an important region of one of East Africa's Rew nations. Sukumaland, an area of Tanzania which contains one tenth of the country's population and its largest tribe, was chosen for the study. Before independence it exhibited the most organized nationalist political activity of any part of the country and developed the largest African-owned co-operative movement in all of Africa. In the final decade of the colonial era Sukumaland was the British administration's principal experimental area for attempts at radical transformation of indigenous political institutions and traditional agricultural techniques. After independence it became a critical testing ground for President Julius Nyerere's concepts of African socialism.

Independent? Tanzania's Challenges Since Uhuru Independent? Tanzania's Challenges Since Uhuru

This book describes the history and challenges facing Tanzania through the voices and memories of Tanzanians and through their visions and ideas about the challenges Tanzania faces today. It is a story of setbacks and disappointments, but also of pride. Among those interviewed are leading politicians, activists and researchers, but the book also includes ordinary everyday Tanzanians-farmers, workers, grandfathers and grandmothers, active and retired civil servants. The statements are used thematically in chapters focusing on the various challenges that have faced Tanzania: from insufficient focus on agriculture to the menace of corruption; from socialism to capitalism and from the role of the family to the importance of religion. There is a strong focus on the limitation of independence. Tanzania is independent, but there is no true independence in a globalized world.

Black Black Minds Black Black Minds
$17.98

In 1977, Prince Jammy returned to Jamaica after several years abroad and began edging into production. That December, he sold the first fruits of his labor -- Black Uhuru's Love Crisis, U Black's Westbound Thing a Swing, the Travellers' Black Black Minds, and the dub set In Lion Dub Style -- to the British Third World label. It was a less than stellar start, though: none of the albums made much of an impact. Neither had the Travellers back home. Originally named the Black Aces, the group self-released a pair of singles on its own Travellers label, to little notice. A change in moniker to the Mighty Travellers didn't help their "Black Black Minds" single, either. But living in the same neighborhood as Uhuru did, and their friendship drew them into Jammy's orbit. The result was Black Black Minds, the Travellers' sole album, entitled after a recut of their previous single. That number kicks off the set in fine style, exalting in the end of slavery, while warning off all who would lead the brethren back into oppression -- a well-worn theme given new impetus by emphasizing the freeing of not just bodies, but minds as well. Lyrics were definitely the Travellers' forte, their songs thoughtfully and intelligently exploring a variety of cultural concerns. Vocally, though, the Travellers were not as strong, and seemed not to have developed a style of their own yet, preferring to imitate their diverse influences. Still, the quartet delivered its numbers with suitable power and emotion, while the harmonies were uniformly flawless, as were all the musical backings. Laid down by the Aggrovators and the Hi Times Band, the album's atmospheres swing from the expectedly militant to more laid-back and even countrified auras. The latter style is best heard on "Jah Gave Us the World," its unity message wrapped in a luminescent backing. Jammy sold "Jah" as a single -- backed with the lovelorn "Girl I Left Behind" -- to the Pyramid label for release in the U.K. Equally notable are the heartfelt "Poor Man Cry"; the instructional "Know Yourself," laced with incandescent harmonies; the apt set-closer, "We Got to Leave"; and the lovely "Keep on Trying," a sufferer's song all the more beautiful for its gentle, lilting delivery. Boosting the original album, this reissue appends a pair of tracks with U Black's exhilarating DJ versions, while several further numbers are twinned with their extended instrumental/dub versions. These additions transform a pleasant album into a memorable one -- a sharp reminder that full-lengths were intended largely for foreign audiences, with the best recordings oftentimes heard only in the sound systems. ~ Jo-Ann Greene, All Music GuidePerformers: Tony Chin - Guitar (Rhythm); Lennox Brown - Sax (Alto);

This Is Crucial Reggae This Is Crucial Reggae
$9.98

The series might be crucial reggae, but this collection from Black Uhuru doesn't qualify as essential. To be fair, there's the excellent "I Love King Selassie" from the band's early days in the Kingston ghetto, but there's a complete absence of anything they released on Island -- the material that made their name and also helped propel the rhythm team of Sly and Robbie into the spotlight. How you can claim a Black Uhuru collection is crucial without "Sinsemillia," "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?," "Spongi Reggae," or a strong selection from their Grammy album, Anthem, is a mystery. They've done some excellent work since, it has to be admitted, but even that pales in comparison to their real glory days in the late '70s and early '80s, when they offered a very fresh perspective on roots reggae. There are much better collections available, such as Liberation or 20th Century Masters. But take this for what it really is, some of the better work of the band's later days, and it's not bad. ~ Chris Nickson, All Music Guide

A View From The East: Black Cultural Nationalism And Education In New A View From The East: Black Cultural Nationalism And Education In New
$18.76

In 1969, The East, a cultural and educational center for people of African ancestry, was founded by dedicated educators and progressive activists who came of age during the era of the Black Power movement. Although Brooklyn was the physical home of The East organization, its influence emanated throughout New York City and beyond, touching individuals and groups in the United States, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. P A View from The East represents a second edition of the previously published Truth Crushed to Earth Will Rise Again by providing expanded archival research and a contextualizing of the organization within the African American civil rights and black power movements. At the heart of The East was Uhuru Sasa Shule, an independent African-centered school whose curriculum and pedagogy were rooted in Kawaida philosophy and concepts of education for self-reliance. In addition, The East became a center for the arts. On weekends, it served as a literary salon and hosted concerts by black musicians. Many of the great jazz artists and poets performed there, as it became a well-known and highly sought-after venue. With fresh insight and great detail, Kwasi B. Konadu excavates the legacy of The East, exploring the confluence of cultural nationalism, education, economic self-sufficiency, and the arts during the Black Power period. Drawing on extensive interviews and primary research, Konadu vividly brings to life the people and events that shaped this remarkable institution and outlines the rich lessons it provides for future community building organizations.
