The Best of Burning Spear [VCT] $9.93 Perhaps the most amazing thing about Burning Spear is how little his approach has changed after nearly 40 years as a recording artist. His themes and concerns — freedom, self-determination, equal rights — have remained constant, and he sticks pretty close to his original musical template of slow to midtempo roots rhythms with plenty of horns and percussion layered into the mix for added punch. As new styles have swept through the Jamaican music business, Spear has stayed his ground, sure in what he wants to say and how he wants to say it, and even as he indignantly details the suffering of the impoverished, Spear also fully praises the resilience of the human spirit. What all of this means is that any Burning Spear collection, no matter how randomly conceived it might be, is going to deliver on all of these tenets. This set, although it is labeled “The Best of Burning Spear,” is hardly that, since it has nothing from his mid-era masterpieces like Dry & Heavy or Man in the Hills and draws mostly from 1980s Hail H.I.M., which isn’t a bad thing necessarily, but it just doesn’t make this the best of Burning Spear, no matter what the title says. ~ Steve LeggettÜ?a, Rovi |

Burning Spear – Gold $15.81 Burning Spear: Winston Rodney (vocals, percussion); Earl "Chinna" Smith , Valentine "Tony" Chin (guitar); Carlton Samuels (flute); Herman Marquis (alto saxophone); Richard Hall (tenor saxophone); Bobby Ellis (trumpet); Vincent Gordon (trombone); Bernard Touter Harvey (piano, Clavinet, organ); Robbie Shakespeare, Aston Barrett (bass guitar); Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace (drums); Delroy Hines, Rupert Willington (background vocals). One of the most original and compelling artists in reggae history, Burning Spear (AKA Winston Rodney) started making hard-hitting roots music in the early 1970s. Upon the release of 1975`s MARCUS GARVEY, Rodney established himself as a devoutly committed Rastafarian and a spokesperson for the rights, history, and identity of African descendents. This outstanding two-disc GOLD compilation begins, appropriately enough, with cuts from MARCUS GARVEY (Rodney`s defining statement and a genre essential) and continues, over the course of two discs, to survey Burning Spear`s Island Records output to the end of the 1970s.Unlike a lot of collections, GOLD does not attempt to serve as a retrospective (Rodney was prolific well into the 2000s). This is a welcome relief, especially as the `70s were, arguably, Rodney`s finest decade. Edgy, soulful, and charged with a deep sense of righteousness, Burning Spear`s `70s recordings move, agitate, and inspire. That Rodney continually surrounded himself with the finest roots musicians–who add deep dread beats, dubby bass, fluid guitar fills, sharp horns, and call-and-response vocals to his inspired singing–is evident on all 28 tracks here. This is a superior compilation of Burning Spear`s best work, and an ideal place to start exploring this seminal reggae artist. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. Burning Spear – Creation Rebel $17.08 Personnel: Winston Rodney (vocals); Eric Frater, Ernest Ranglin, Carlton Manning, Albert Griffiths, Patrick McDonald (guitar); David Madden, Vin Gordon, Jojo Bennett, Cedric `Im Brooks (horns); Richard Ace (keyboards); Leroy Sibbles (bass instrument); Enid Cumberland (percussion); Fil Callender (guitar, drums); Headley Bennett (horns); Robert Lyn (keyboards); Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace (drums); Denzel Laing (percussion).DJ: Clement "Coxsone" Dodd.Liner Note Authors: Chris Wilson; Chris "Poet" Wilson.Recording information: Jamaica Recording And Publishing Studio Limited, Kingst. Before Burning Spear (AKA Winston Rodney) moved to Mango Records in the mid-1970s, a period that saw the release of such roots masterpieces as MARCUS GARVEY and MAN IN THE HILLS, he recorded material for producer Clement Dodd at Studio One. CREATION REBEL culls 20 tracks from Spear`s Studio One sessions, all of which were recorded between 1969 and 1974. Though Spear`s aesthetic would come together in its most stunning fashion on the Mango albums, CREATION REBEL is full of the artist`s deep roots sound and trademark Rastafarian themes. In fact, Spear was one of the first Jamaican acts to deal explicitly with colonial history, Black Nationalism, and songs of religious devotion.Musically, CREATION REBEL does not resemble the sunny rocksteady of Spear`s contemporaries at the time; instead, Spear is already defining his signature stripped-down vibe, with an emphasis on rugged rhythms and winding, chant-like vocals. "Swell Headed," for example, floats along in mesmerizing fashion, as does "Door Peeper," Spear`s very first single. In addition to the superb material, Dodd`s fine production, and the excellent session work from the Studio one musicians, the nine previously unreleased tracks (with rare stereo mixes) here make this a treasure for roots collectors. Burning Spear – Farover $11.98 Burning Spear: Winston Rodney (vocals); Michael Wilson, Devon Bradshaw (guitar); Bobby Ellis (horns, percussion); Herman Marquis (horns); Richard Johsnon (piano, Clavinet, organ, synthesizer); Aston "Family Man" Barrett (Clavinet, organ, bass, background vocals); Anthony Bradshaw (bass, percussion, background vocals); Nelson Miller (drums, octoban); Elias Rodney (percussion).Recorded at Tuff Gong Studios, Kingston, Jamaica in 1982. Includes liner notes by Roger Steffens. All tracks have been digitally remastered.Though Burning Spear will probably always and forever be known for his 1975 classic MARCUS GARVEY and its astonishing dub version, GARVEY`S GHOST, he`s had one of the longest and most artistically fruitful careers in reggae history. FAROVER, a 1982 session, is one of his most powerful albums, combining his one-of-a-kind vocals with some of the strongest compositions of his career. The brooding title track sets the tone, with Aston "Family Man" Barrett`s impossibly deep, dread-filled bass and pulsating clavinet moving the track along under Burning Spear`s passionate declamations. It`s a true reggae classic. Though perhaps not all of the songs are quite up to that opener, the no-nonsense "Education" and devotional "Jah Is My Driver" are also Burning Spear classics. Throughout, Richard Johnson adds tasteful synthesizer to the usual clavinet-and-organ grooves, foreshadowing the instrument`s eventual domination of reggae, but FAROVER is pure roots-reggae all the way. Burning Spear – Hail H.I.M. $8.85 Burning Spear: Winston Rodney (vocals, congas, percussion); Junior Marvin (guitar); Bobby Ellis, Herman Marquis, Egbert Evans (horns); Tyrone Downie, Earl "Wire" Lindo (keyboards); Aston "Family Man" Barrett (bass, percussion); Nelson Miller (drums).Producers: Winston Rodney, Aston "Family Man" Barrett.Recorded at Tuff Gong Studio, Kingston, Jamaica in 1980. Originally released on Tammi Records. Includes liner notes by Roger Steffens. All tracks have been digitally remastered.Recorded at a time when Bob Marley was crossing reggae over into the mainstream, HAIL H.I.M. qualifies as a lost Burning Spear classic. At the time of its 1980 release, HAIL had no American distribution and it was only briefly available as an import shortly after that. Thankfully, Heartbeat reissued this seminal album in 1994, at a time when Spear (a.k.a. Winston Rodney) was in the midst of a bountifully creative upswing. When Rodney entered Tuff Gong Studios to cut HAIL H.I.M., not only did he borrow St. Ann`s Parish native Bob Marley`s recording digs, but brought Marley`s band the Wailers in as a backup band. The result is a warm-sounding record in which Spear continues delivering his message of Jah and Rastafari, starting with a picture of Emperor Haile Selsassie I on horseback that graces the album cover. When Spear isn`t paying homage to the unifying concept of Pan-Africanism ("African Teacher," "African Postman," "Cry Blood Africans"), he`s providing a musical history lesson by singing of both heroes ("Follow Marcus Garvey") and heels ("Columbus") buttressed by the Wailer`s rich sound. This powerful collection deserves a place on the shelf next to anything by Marley or Peter Tosh. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved. |

Burning Spear – Our Music [Limited] $15.82 Perhaps the most amazing thing about Burning Spear is how little his approach has changed after nearly 40 years as a recording artist. His themes and concerns — freedom, self-determination, equal rights — have remained constant, and he sticks pretty close to his original musical template of slow to mid-tempo roots rhythms with plenty of horns and percussion layered into the mix for added punch. As new styles have swept through the Jamaican music business, Spear has stayed his ground, sure in what he wants to say and how he wants to say it, always supporting and praising the resilience of the human spirit. Our Music, released on his own Burning Spear Records (which Spear runs with his wife and business partner Sonia Rodney), is his most fully realized record in years, with a bright, bubbling sound that is almost joyous in its persistence, even as he tackles hard social issues. Although it was recorded in New York City at Magic Shop Recording Studios, Our Music is thoroughly Jamaican, with Leroy Wallace once again holding down most of the drumming duties, and the rhythms are marvelously organic, natural, and vibrant, with sharp, perfectly placed horn charts (no one in reggae uses horns better than Burning Spear) that punctuate the melodies without derailing them. But most of all, Our Music is filled with hope, and that unerring hope is what lifts this record, even as Spear takes on his usual heavy social themes. This is a deeply committed artist, and it isn`t chic or anything new with him (he`s been bringing the same message since his first recordings with Clement Dodd in the mid-`60s), but what`s a bit of a breakthrough here is how bright and airy his sound has become, even as he sticks with the mid-tempo rhythms and his generally sonorous vocal delivery. Highlights include the title track, "Our Music," the extended mix "Together" (which deals with war-torn Africa and features a fluid and soaring dub coda), "Down in Jamaica" (which wouldn`t sound out of place on Spear`s classic Marcus Garvey album), and the glorious, loping, and infectious "Walk," which essentially visits the whole planet in the lyrics, as Spear calls for a renewed sense of place in the world, not as a divisive factor, but as the first step toward unity. Know where you are, Spear insists, know where you live, get out and walk where you live, and know that this is the beginning of understanding the whole world we live in, neighborhood by neighborhood. A wonderful new album by a roots reggae master. ~ Steve Leggett Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved. |

His albums are gentle history lessons in black culture; they tend to inform rather than preach. This is one of a number of excellent albums built around his theme of Marcus Garvey, the great leader of the Back To Africa movement. Spear is surrounded by the finest session musicians in Jamaica, in addition to Sly and Robbie. In assembling a record collection there are always a few token Marley records included. At least one Burning Spear album should be made compulsory. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved. |

Well, this recent live double shot is hardly its predecessor`s equal, but Rodney is still one of the truly great voices in reggae. So even when the going gets rough, or boring, or meanders into Jah oblivion, he`s still worth the price of admission. His new band (complete with all-female horn section) is a tightly skanking bunch of bohunks who negotiate the labyrinthine rhythmic pulsation with grace and panache. And while the material here is no match for earlier stuff like "Marcus Garvey," "Slavery Days" and "Man in the Hills," it stacks up well by comparison, especially "Spear Burning" and "Creation Rebel." ~ John Dougan, Option Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Burning Spear – Living Dub Vol. 5 $15.82 Personnel: Burning Spear (percussion); Wayne Armond (guitar); James "Hal" Smith , Chico Chin (trumpet); Micah Robinson (trombone); Stephen Stewart (keyboards); Chris Meridith (bass guitar); Shawn "Mark" Dawson (drums); Uziah "Sticky" Thompson (percussion).Liner Note Author: Carter Van Pelt.Recording information: Grove Music Studio, Ocho Rios, Jamaica.Photographer: Mark Seliger.Arranger: Winston Rodney.Living Dub, Vol. 5 is actually Burning Spear`s seventh dub album since 1976 when the groundbreaking Garvey`s Ghost, a dub makeover of the Marcus Garvey album, was first released. Given the brilliant sameness of Spear`s approach over the years, which relies on slow to midtempo smoky roots rhythms that burn under his half-spoken, cadenced vocals, his dub sets are often quite startling, revealing the rich detail that Spear constructs for his backing tracks, and when his vocals snake in and out of these dubs, they carry a conciseness often lacking in the main album versions, good as they are. This set contains dub remixes done by Barry O`Hare from Spear`s 1999 album Calling Rastafari, and these new versions unfold in bright, bubbling soundscapes full of interjected horn lines, organ trills, bursts of percussion, and enough of Spear`s original vocal tracks to give them thematic shape. The end result is a sort of refracted, underwater dream version of the original album, but by no means is it an adjunct to it, since it works in its own stead. Highlights include the opener, "Hit Dub," the brisk, majestic "Holy Dub," and the reggae funk of "Dub He." Again, you don`t need to own or be familiar with Calling Rastafari in order to connect with Living Dub, Vol. 5. It works on its own terms. ~ Steve Leggett Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Burning Spear – Rasta Business [Digipak] [Remaster] $10.22 Burning Spear: Winston Rodney (vocals, percussion); Lenford Richards (guitar, percussion); Lenval "Shayar" Jarrett (guitar); James Smith (trumpet); Charles Dickey (trombone); Jay Noel (synthesizer); Paul Beckford (bass guitar); Nelson Miller (drums, percussion); Alvin Haughton (percussion).Additional personnel: Rupert Bent, Jr. (guitar); Dean Fraser (saxophone); Chico Chin (trumpet); Nambo Robinson (trombone); Robert Lyn (piano, synthesizer); Basil Cunningham (bass guitar); Uziah "Sticky" Thompson (percussion).Burning Spear celebrated his silver anniversary in the music industry by releasing RASTA BUSINESS, his 26th album. During 25 years of recording, Spear (a.k.a. Winston Rodney), became a reggae music icon whose consistently solid material was overshadowed by friend and fellow St. Ann`s Parish native Bob Marley. Despite being consistently overlooked by the average music fan, Spear continued preaching his message of tolerance, love, and all things Rastafari. On RASTA BUSINESS, Spear takes the lead as a moral professor trafficking in respect for both elders ("Old Timer") and parents ("Creation"). Elsewhere, Rodney becomes a conduit of culture, whether he`s invoking the names of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X alongside that of Jah ("Subject in School," "Every Other Nation") or looking at the shameful legacy of slavery ("Not Stupid"). Not unlike many of his reggae peers, Spear devotes significant time to dealing with numerous instances of being cheated in business deals. One of the few times in his career that Rodney`s normally positive outlook faltered is on "Legal Hustlers," a denouncement of parasitic lawyers and their attempts at manipulation. Burning Spear – People of the World [2002 Reissue] [Digipak] $11.86 Burning Spear: Anthony Bradshaw (guitar, percussion, background vocals); Jennifer Hill (saxophone); Pamela Fleming (trumpet); Linda Richards (trombone); Richard Johnson (keyboards); Devon Bradshaw (bass guitar); Winston Rodney (percussion); Nelson Miller, Lenford Richards, Alvin Haughton.Personnel: Winston Rodney (vocals); Lenford Richards (guitar); Dean Fraser, Jenny Hill (saxophone); Chico Chin (trumpet); Nilda Richards, Nambo Robinson (trombone); Richard G. Johnson (keyboards); Robert Lyn (synthesizer); Nelson Miller (drums); Alvin Haughton (percussion).Additional personnel: Robert Lyn (keyboards); Dean Fraser, Nambo Robinson, Chico Chin.Audio Mixer: Michel Sauvage.Recording information: Tuff Gong Studios, Kingston, Jamaica.Unknown Contributor Role: Robert Lyn.Though not nearly as intense as his releases from the late 1970s, the albums Burning Spear made in the mid-to-late `80s are still powerful slabs of roots reggae. Winston Rodney (Burning Spear) has never relinquished his commitment to meaningful Rasta music or his moral vision of social justice and equality, and 1986`s PEOPLE OF THE WORLD is no exception. Even with the more pronounced presence of synthesizers and a highly polished production, Rodney delivers his Rastafarian message over hard-hitting, hypnotic grooves.Hooky melodies like "Built this City" alternate with deep, dub-like vibes such as "No Worry U Self" and the down-tempo pulse of the title track (with its clarion call to unity). There are surprises in the sunshine-filled tribute to Africa and Jamaica ("Little Love Song"), and the sound of a wailing electric guitar on "Seville Land" (though this adds drama to Rodney`s narrative about a slavery plantation). The arrangements–as per usual with Burning Spear–are quite complex and precise, with the horn charts adding rhythmic punctuation throughout. PEOPLE OF THE WORLD was nominated for a Grammy. His fervent yet warm and soulful voice (similar to Bob Marley`s, but deeper) and his insistence to keep his style of reggae close to its Afro-Caribbean roots have produced some of the music`s finest albums. MAJESTY is from 1997, and though it`s more polished than his classic albums from the `70s (highly recommended: MAN IN THE HILLS or the compilation set REGGAE GREATS, both on Island), it`s a fine, heartfelt, easygoing set of reggae.High points are "Play Jerry," a playful yet respectful tribute to the Grateful Dead`s late guitarist/icon, Jerry Garcia; the proud devotional exhortation "Glory Be to Jah,"; and the soulful, `60s rhythm & blues-inspired "Don`t Sell Out." Hard-core culture reggae fans might be put off by the smooth production here, but those new to reggae, as well as Burning Spear fans, will find a lot to groove on here.DVD Features:DVD Include Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Includes liner notes by David Katz.Personnel: Winston Rodney (vocals, percussion); Roots Kinsley, Earl "Chinna" Smith (guitar); Herman Marquis (alto saxophone); Dirty Harry Hall (tenor saxophone); Bobby Ellis (trumpet); Vincent "Trommie" Gordon (trombone); Earl Lindo, Tyrone "Organ D" Bownie, Bernard Touter Harvey (keyboards); Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace (drums); Noel "Scully" Simms, Uziah "Sticky" Thompson (percussion).Liner Note Authors: David Katz; Carl Gayle.Recording information: Harry J`s Recording Studio, Kingston, Jamaica; Randy`s Recording Studio, North Parade.Illustrator: Neville Garrick.Photographers: Kim Gottlieb-Walker; Dania Asher.Arranger: Winston Rodney. In his consistently excellent musical output, and his unflagging political and spiritual concerns, Burning Spear (a.k.a. Winston Rodney) is one of reggae`s definitive roots artists. While his landmark release MARCUS GARVEY, released in 1975, is the best place to start, this superb twofer, which combines 1976`s MAN IN THE HILLS with 1977`s DRY AND HEAVY on one disc, is a fine second choice.Rodney`s `70s albums are arguably his best: with their stripped down aesthetic and musical backing from consummate session players Sly and Robbie. Both records uphold the standard of the era; although many of the lyrics on MAN IN THE HILLS take an unusual autobiographical turn when Rodney sings of his upbringing in Jamaica, there are plenty of conscious messages, and the rhythms bubble and percolate. DRY & HEAVY features remakes of several songs from Rodney`s Studio One days, which improve on the originals in both execution and production. Both albums are strong examples of `70s roots reggae at its best. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved. |

Burning Spear – Living Dub, Vol. 2 [Remastered] [Digipak] $11.86 Personnel: Burning Spear (vocals, percussion); Burning Spear; Earl Lindo (keyboards); Aston Barrett (bass guitar, percussion); Junior Marvin (guitar); Herman Marquis (saxophone, horns); Bobby Ellis (trumpet, horns); Barry Bailey (trombone, horns); Tyrone Downie (keyboards); Nelson Miller (drums).Audio Remasterer: Michel Sauvage.Audio Remixers: Chris "Poet" Wilson; Michel Sauvage; Barry O`Hare.Recording information: Tuff Gong Studio, Kingston, Kingston, Jamaica (1970-1985).Burning Spear–also known as Winston Rodney–is an institution in the world of reggae. His fervent yet warm and soulful voice (similar to Bob Marley`s, but deeper) and his insistence to keep his style of reggae close to its Afro-Caribbean roots have produced some of the music`s finest albums. LIVING DUB, VOLUME 2 is a dub-mixed version of Rodney`s classic HAIL H.I.M. album. For those less familiar with dub, it`s an offshoot of reggae where a studio`s mixing board functions as an "instrument," one that reconstructs the sound of a finished song. Vocal melodies, laden with echo, ebb and flow, appear and disappear like ghosts; bass and drums are pushed to greater prominence, horn lines reverberate as if they were trapped in a canyon. The passion of Rodney`s melodies and vocal delivery, melded with the spooky, almost psychedelic recasting of the original songs, make for a heady mix. This may not be the best place to be exposed to the majestic sounds of Burning Spear, but his fans–and dub fans–will find this album to be a party. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Burning Spear – The World Should Know [Remaster] $15.82 Personnel includes: Winston Rodney (vocals, percussion); Lenford Richards (guitar, keyboards); Sha Yar (guitar); Paul Beckford (bass); nelson Miller (drums); Alvin Haughton (percussion).Personnel: Sha Yar, Lenford Richards (guitar); Dean Fraser, Mark Wilson (saxophone); Chico Chin, James Smith (trumpet); Nambo Robinson, Charles Dickey (trombone); Paul Beckford (bass instrument); Nelson Miller (drums); Alvin Haughton (percussion); Sharon Forrester (background vocals).Additional personnel: Robby Lyn (keyboards).Even though The World Should Know was released on CD, Burning Spear was still thinking in vinyl terms, and thus this album is very much a record of two distinct halves. The first five tracks are pure culture, although the music is anything but pure roots. In fact, the entire album is underpinned by dance beats, either by the programmed drums favored by the discos or the big, booming beats so popular in Jamaican dancehalls. Winston Rodney worked hard to make World sound global, determined that it would go down just as well at home as in foreign climes. A few songs are geared more to island styling, others more to the northern market, but most are a sparkling blend of both, an excellent use of beats, brass, and synths to encompass differing genres within individual songs. Rodney had learned much during his return trip to Island Records, and now put it to use back at his former label, Heartbeat. The five cultural numbers together create a mini-concept album, which moves from the global to the personal. The title track envelops economics, unity, and consciousness, while "In a Time Like Now" specifically addresses the withering effects of the free-market policies that are impoverishing Jamaica and so many other developing countries. "I Stand Strong" and "Identity" discuss Rodney`s own personal philosophy, and "It`s Not a Crime" covers one of his favorite topics, the importance of loving and educating youth. That latter song resurrects the old kiddie song "I`m a Little Teapot," which the singer had utilized to such devastating effect years ago on "Fire Down Below." The rest of the record is more varied, from a pair of love songs for the ladies to the bouncy celebration of music in "Mi Gi Dem (I Give Them)" and the more ambiguous "On the Inside," which can be read both as a personal relationship number and a broader cultural song, while "Peace" combines a unity theme with a devotional message. World was an exciting change of pace after the more hypnotic Jah Kingdom; bright and bubbly, lush and dance-friendly, the album was proof positive that one could bring culture to the world`s dancefloors. Deservedly, it was nominated for a Grammy. [The World Should Know was re-released in 2005 with a bonus DVD.] ~ Jo-Ann GreeneDVD Features:DVD Included Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Burning Spear – Live At The Montreux Jazz Festival 2001 [Digipak] $14.83 Personnel: Burning Spear (vocals, congas, percussion); Galbert Spence, Cecil Ordonez (guitar); Clyde Cummings (saxophone); James Smith (trumpet); Micah Robinson (trombone); Stephan Stewart (keyboards); Dave Richard (bass guitar); Michael Ramsey (drums). This recording captures reggae legend Winston Rodney (AKA Burning Spear) in one of his renowned live performances. Though Rodney`s latter-day studio work hasn`t quite matched landmark recordings such as 1975`s MARCUS GARVEY, he has remained a committed and tireless showman over the years, spreading his message of social justice and equality via the deep grooves of roots music. His appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2001 shows him still going strong.Rodney is a valuable teacher in that his lyrics often read as history lessons on topics such as discrimination ("Jah Nuh Dead"), black leaders ("Old Marcus"), and ignominious legacies ("Slavery Days"). But Rodney`s personal message is one of liberation and unity, and the buoyant, hypnotic, infectious music created by his stellar backing band upholds this ideal. (The horn section here, which switches between punchy melodic riffs and jazzy soloing, is particularly notable.) This is a strong concert outing and a rousing testament to Burning Spear`s live presence. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved. |

His deep, preaching vocal is immediately arresting, a characteristic enhanced by a dense and brooding accompaniment. Taking cues from Rastafarian chants, Spear subtly builds an intensity, locking each track into a seamless whole. His knowledge of black history brings a chilling realism to the album`s lyrics, resulting in what is incontestably a milestone in the development of reggae. Listening to it is an education itself.
